Virtues and Ethics of listening to the Holy Quran

islam_quranThe holy Quran is the last of the four books of Allah, and was revealed upon Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is by far the greatest book and reading the holy Quran has many virtues. This is proved by a hadith of the holy Prophet (PBUH):

“Whoever reads one letter of Allah’s book will be rewarded one good deed and the good deed doubles to ten times. I do not say “Alif Lâm Mîm” is one letter, but Alif is one letter, Lam is one letter, and Mim is one letter”. [Sunan al-Tirmidhî (2910)]

Even listening to the recitation of the holy Quran has virtues. And now you can get Holy Book  which you can use to listen to the recitation of the holy Quran whenever you please. There was an incident where the holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) asked a Sahabi to read the Quran for him:

The Prophet () said to Abdullah ibn Masood: “Recite for me the Qur’an.” He said: “O Messenger of Allah! Should I recite to you and it was revealed to you?” He said: “Yes, for I like to hear it from others.” “I recited Surat an-Nisaa’ until I reached the ayah, “How (will it be) then, when We bring from each nation a witness and We bring you (O Muhammad) as a witness against these people?” [An-Nisaa’ 4:41] He then said: “Stop now.” I found that his eyes were tearful.” [Al Bukhari and Muslim]

There is a verse where it is revealed that the Jinns stood in silence listening to the holy Quran, it described that the jinns stood in silence listening to the recitation of the holy Quran, and when the recitation was finished they turned towards their people and warned them of their sins, they told them about the holy Quran and that it guides them to the straight and right path. They said that believe in Allah, he will forgive your sins and will save you from a grievous penalty.

Surely it is better if you listen to the recitation of the holy Quran live, but it is not always possible so you can get Holy Book Quran.

The Ethics of listening to the holy Quran are also mentioned in Quranic verses. It is mentioned in the holy Quran that the true believers are those who feel tremors in their hearts when they hear the verses of the holy Quran, their faith is strengthened and they put their trust in Allah.

The ethics that one should follow while reciting the holy Quran also apply when you are listening to it. One should reflect upon the verses that are recited before him and he should be influenced by them, and then he should react positively. While listening to the holy Quran, one should sit with respect and great attention while listening to the recitation of the holy Quran.
